Developing an Aquaculture Human Resources Plan for the Aquaculture Industry in Newfoundland and Labrador
The Newfoundland Aquaculture Industry Association represents the interests of aquaculturists in Newfoundland and Labrador. It is a member-based non-profit organization with a mandate to facilitate and promote commercial development of aquaculture in the province. One of the issues identified under support capacity in the Sustainable Aquaculture Strategy 2014 is the human resource challenges faced by aquaculture operators. In response to this issue, NAIA commissioned Training Works and MQO Research to develop an Aquaculture Human Resources Plan for the aquaculture industry within the province.
The Aquaculture Human Resource Plan is divided into three strategic initiatives related to the aquaculture industry, which include a labour market analysis, a training capacity review, and a talent attraction and retention strategy.
Project Planning
In collaboration with NAIA, Training Works and MQO developed a comprehensive plan to gather information for the labour market analysis and training capacity review that could be synthesized into a talent attraction and retention strategy for the industry.
Project Execution
This project included extensive secondary research (literature reviews, jurisdictional scans, etc.) as well as primary research collected through a series of surveys, key informant interviews, site visits, and focus groups. Topics covered include discussions of the current labour market, anticipated future labour market, other labour market issues, training capacity review issues, and more.
